🎯 20+ goals in multiple seasons: Where do Agüero, Lewandowski, Henry & Eto’o stack up?

It’s perhaps totally unsurprising to see Lionel Messi & Cristiano Ronaldo lead the way in yet another astonishing goal-scoring metric.

The iconic pair have changed the goal-scoring game and it’s unlikely to ever be the same again.

CR7 and LM10 have now scored 20+ goals in 13 consecutive domestic league seasons, a testament to their ridiculous consistency and longevity as well as their clinical prowess in front of goal.

Another modern great, Robert Lewandowski, is no slouch either having hit 20 or more in nine Bundesliga seasons throughout his stellar career.

Only an esteemed group of strikers have hit 20+ league goals in multiple seasons across Europe’s big five divisions.

Of these 14 players, nine of them are still active in Europe while Gonzalo Higuain is part of David Beckham’s ambitious Inter Miami project in the MLS.

Samuel Eto’o, Thierry Henry, Ruud van Nistelrooy and Luca Toni are all enjoying retirement.

📊 Most seasons with 20+ goals in Europe’s top five leagues

  • 13 = 🇦🇷 L. Messi
  • 13 = 🇵🇹 C. Ronaldo
  • 9 = 🇵🇱 R. Lewandowski
  • 7 = 🇦🇷 S. Agüero

  • 5 = 🇫🇷 T. Henry
  • 5 = 🇳🇱 R. Van Nistelrooy
  • 5 = 🇸🇪 Z. Ibrahimović
  • 5 = 🇮🇹 L. Toni
  • 5 = 🇫🇷 K. Benzema
  • 5 = 🇺🇾 L. Suárez
  • 5 = 🇦🇷 G. Higuaín
  • 5 = 🇺🇾 E. Cavani
  • 5 = 🇬🇦 P-E. Aubameyang
  • 4 = 🇨🇲 S. Eto’o

It’s easy and possibly pointless to speculate about what may happen in the future, but Erling Haaland’s current tally of 19 Bundesliga goals this season will inevitably hit 20.

Kylian Mbappé, two years Haaland’s senior, notched 33 goals in the 2018-19 Ligue 1 season but hasn’t hit the 20-mark since. He should do so this season though, with 18 strikes to his name already and nine matches still to play in the French top-flight.

Mbappé and Haaland look set to carry the goal-scoring torch in the 2020s. Who’s going to join them?

Brighton cruised to a 3-0 victory over Newcastle United

Brighton & Hove Albion edged away from the relegation zone with an impressive 3-0 victory over Newcastle United on Saturday evening, leaving the Magpies in a whole world of trouble above the drop zone. The first half-hour was played entirely in Newcastle's half, with Brighton enjoying 72% of possession, but only managing a couple of semi-threatening shots on target. The half appeared to have ended when Isaac Hayden was stretchered […]
