The first patch in three years for the 2005 Star Wars Battlefront 2 was pulled after it broke the game.

A surprise hotfix update was issued on 9th February to Pandemic Studios’ much-loved multiplayer shooter that addressed a number of issues with graphic resolution and controller support in the game.

While the update was initially met positively – an update for a 15 year old game is fantastic support, after all – it didn’t take long for players to notice it broke the game in several key areas.

Eurogamer Next-Gen News Cast – Will PlayStation Studios publish more games on Xbox?

Players reported crash issues, field of view issues, resolution issues, user interface object and text size problems and, worst of all, mods popular within the community were no longer usable.

A representative for GOG told Eurogamer the update was provided to it by the game’s publisher, Lucasfilm Games (this is the new brand name for Lucasfilm’s renewed video game effort), and it took it down from its platform “after reviewing the user feedback and consulting with our partner”.

And now, a new update on Steam reveals a similar move on Valve’s platform: “Reverting to the previous version.”

It’s a shame the patch hasn’t worked out for Star Wars Battlefront 2 players, but assuming Lucasfilm Games can sort it out, it does suggest continued support for the veteran shooter.
