Despite his superb role in Barcelona’s win over Sevilla on Wednesday night, Frenchman Antoine Griezmann once again was started from the bench by manager Ronald Koeman.
Barca arrived in the game on a back of a two-goal deficit against their opponents but with the game heading in their favour, Griezmann was to provide the assist that was tucked in by Pique to send the game into extra time.
With Koeman opting to go with three center-backs, two wingers and two forwards in his starting lineup, it was the third game the Frenchman was omitted from the XI, a run he last recorded during the 2014/15 season as noted in a report by Mundo Deportivo.
They had been reports that the player could be handed a start in the Sevilla game after being omitted from their weekend league clash but that wasn’t the case with reports having emerged that Koeman doesn’t see where to fit the player in his system.
The Dutchman prefers to play with a back three something that needs auxiliary wingers and the form of Ousmane Dembele hasn’t been giving doing Griezmann any favours too.
