Arsenal advanced to the quarter-finals of the Europa League on aggregate despite losing 1-0 to Olympiacos.

It should have been much more convincing. Instead, they lose 1-0 on the night as a result of Youssef El-Arabi’s goal early in the second half but go through 3-2 on aggregate.

Olympiacos could have taken the lead early through El-Arabi but Bernd Leno denied. The visitors had the ball forward as Sa sent it long in behind Arsenal’s backline. El-Arabi smashed the ball goalwards but Leno put it behind for a corner.

Arsenal missed a chance to take the lead in the 24th minute as Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang could not capitalize. Gabriel robbed El-Arabi on the half-way line before finding Ceballos, who again played a perfect pass in front of Aubameyang in the box.

The club captain toe-poked it over, like he was going for a conversion, and looked around in disbelief.

Goal

El-Arabi gave Olympiacos the lead in the second half, and once again it was Dani Ceballos losing the ball upfield. Fortounis found El-Arabi, Arsenal’s slayer last season, and he checked onto his right in the box before Gabriel deflected his effort past Leno.

Red Card

Eight minutes to stoppage time, Olympiacos were reduced to ten men as Ba was sent off. He was shown the second yellow card for a foul on Gabrielli Martinelli.
