In 2020, word first emerged that singer Miley Cyrus had spent some time recording cover versions of Metallica songs, with an update this year revealing that Elton John, Red Hot Chili Peppers’ Chad Smith and others were involved.

On Tuesday (June 22), Metallica announced a massive Black Album reissue containing an accompanying Metallica covers album by various artists called Blacklist, the tribute set featuring Cyrus’ take on “Nothing Else Matters” among its tracklist.

The song, released by Metallica alongside Tuesday’s announcement, indeed includes contributions from John and Smith alongside Cyrus’ lead vocal; it also counts Ozzy and Post Malone producer Andrew Watt, cellist Yo-Yo Ma and Metallica’s own Robert Trujillo among its collaborators.

“Check out your first sneak peek of the #MetallicaBlacklist with a star-studded rendition of ‘Nothing Else Matters’ by @MileyCyrus featuring @thisiswatt, @eltonofficial, @YoYo_Ma, @RobertTrujillo, and @RHCPchad,” Metallica tweeted on Tuesday with a link to the tune’s YouTube video.

The new Blacklist album, along with a remastered version of the original Black Album, will both be released Sept. 10 via Metallica’s Blackened Recordings. “With contributions from countries all over the globe from the U.S. to Nigeria, there are tracks from singer-songwriters, country artists, electronic and hip-hop artists alongside punk rockers, indie darlings, icons of rock, metal, world music and many, many more covering the entire spectrum from musicians we’ve shared the stage with, to some who were not even born yet when the original album was released!” Metallica shared in a statement.

The covers effort boasts new Metallica renditions from a total of 53 artists. Other contributors elsewhere on the tribute album include Ghost, Weezer, Royal Blood, Volbeat and more. See the full list here.
