Still no album from Kanye West, but his latest listening event had more than just “Flashing Lights.”
The rapper, who is currently working to get his legal name changed to Ye, premiered his highly anticipated “Donda” album at a third listening event Thursday in Chicago’s Soldier Field Stadium. West previously premiered “Donda” at two shows in Atlanta’s Mercedes Benz Stadium, but it was the listening event in the Windy City that got social media talking.
West, dressed in an all-black outfit, created the main stage as a replica of his childhood home, crowned with a steeple atop a dirt mound.
Social media users reacted to these appearances calling the trio the “cancelled avengers.”
“I don’t have to tell you guys about DaBaby so I’ll tell you about Marilyn he has 4 sexual assault allegations as of July 2021,” @NotYetUhuru_ wrote.
“Kanye about to assemble the cancelled avengers with DaBaby and Marilyn Manson #DONDA,” @lil_robitussin1 wrote.
“And now DaBaby will have really learned nothing because he’s being propped up by one of the biggest artists in the world. His harmful rhetoric is further legitimized,” and he’ll be back on the festival circuit,” author of “Caul Baby” and ESPN culture editor @MorganJerkins wrote.
Other talked-about “Donda” moments included a reenactment of a wedding ceremony that drew the event to a close. A woman speculated to be Kim Kardashian, who filed for divorce from the rapper in February, dressed in a wedding gown and met West on stage as they walked off together.
There was also a portion of the listening event where West appeared to be engulfed in flames as he strutted around the main stage.
“Donda” was originally scheduled to be released July 23, but was later pushed back to an August date. As of Aug. 27, “Donda” has still not been released on streaming platforms.
