Lionel Messi’s contract situation at Barcelona has taken a new twist with reports rife that he wants to move to Paris Saint Germain.

The club captain has his contract expiring in the summer and according to French publication L’Equipe, the player has received a direct phone call from former team-mate Neymar pleading with the Argentine superstar to ‘join him’ in Paris.

Messi looked set for a shock exit from Barcelona last summer, starting a legal battle with his current club over a clause in his contract but the club argued that the clause in his deal had expired a few months prior in June and was no longer active.

It had been reported that the player wasn’t happy with Barcelona’s hierarchy following their humiliating Champions League exit last season at the hands of Bayern Munich and the way some of their private information had leaked to the public.

Neymar has not hidden his ambitions of playing with the Argentine and previously said: “I’d love to play with Messi again, what I want the most is to enjoy playing with him on the pitch again. I want to play with him again. Surely next year we’ll have to do it.”

Despite the latest reports, there is a feeling that Messi will be staying at Barca following the election of Joan Laporta as the new Barcelona president
