For a new album, Miranda Lambert penned a musical journey to rural west Texas — and she enlisted ace co-writers Jon Randall and Jack Ingram to accompany her on the trip.
Lambert, Ingram and Randall release “The Marfa Tapes” May 7, according to an Instagram post Thursday from the award-winning “Bluebird” singer. The first song, “In His Arms,” debuts Thursday at 11 p.m. CST.
“They’re raw,” Lambert said of the new songs. “You can hear the wind blowing, the cows mooing. … We wanted you to feel like you were right there with us, sitting around the campfire, escaping the world, disappearing into the music.”
The trio recorded the album in Marfa, a Texas desert town where Lambert goes “every time I need an escape,” she said on Twitter earlier this week. Past Marfa-influenced collaborations from the group include standout 2016 Lambert song “Tin Man” and “Tequila Does,” a track off her 2019 record “Wildcard.”
They’ve written 13 songs since “Tequila Does,” Lambert said in her post. The record follows “Wildcard,” which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Top Country Albums chart and earned her a 2021 Grammy nomination.
“We recharge,” Lambert said of the writing retreats. “We get inspired by its beauty. We write songs.”
