Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskajer has warned his players they must be spot on as they prepare to take on neighbours Man City in an English Premier League clash.

Solskjaer believes his side can beat Pep Guardiola’s team, who have an amazing run of 21 wins in all competitions going into the clash at Etihad.

Solskjaer can be encouraged by his record against Guardiola, having beaten the Spaniard three times last season.

United too can boast of having not lost any away game this season, with their last loss coming in February 2020.

“You have to attack and you have to defend at your absolute highest level,” he told reporters in the second half of Friday’s press conference. “There are fine margins. There’s dumb luck at times. There are tactical little tweaks you can make.

“The heart will stop sometimes when you just defend all the time. In some of the wins we’ve had, when we have had some great attacks and created some great counter-attacking opportunities, they have also had great chances.

“We know in this 95, 100 minutes, whatever it will be, we have to be on the front foot, we have to defend high and press at times. You have to be really good at defending low at times.

“Sometimes you have to be really good at breaking and counter-attacking quickly, circulate the ball really quickly and keep it at times. To win a game of football against a top team, every player has to be spot on.

“You may have to be lucky at times and the decisions you make [are important]. You can make the right or wrong decision with a shot. Everything has to be spot on in the top games.”

United could cut City’s lead at the top to 11 points with a win, but a loss could see Guardiola’s side open a 15-point lead.
