Patricia Altschul’s butler, Michael Kelcourse, is getting support from tens of thousands as he recovers from a spinal cord stroke.
Just over a week after Whitney Sudler-Smith and Cameran Eubanks spoke about the condition of Patricia’s butler of nearly 20 years, the Southern Charm star and unofficial matriarch of the cast shared a link to a CaringBridge page set up for her longtime employee and friend.
“To get updates on Michael Kelcourse and to send him good wishes get the [CaringBridge] app or go to the link in my bio … also included is the address for the [Shepherd] Spinal Center in Atlanta,” Patricia wrote on Instagram on Tuesday.
On the CaringBridge page, Luzanne Otte, the former girlfriend of Thomas Ravenel, is listed as an administrator, and it was revealed that Michael’s infarction occurred in his thoracic spine and that sadly he had become a “paraplegic overnight.”
“When an otherwise healthy loved one becomes paraplegic over night, we may not know what to say but we know what to do: be at their side. The pandemic has robbed us of that form of support. Since those dearest to Michael are not permitted to be physically present, we are hoping for a windfall of well-wishes from the public to support a lengthy journey. Michael’s support team recognizes the magic in a stranger’s kindness and healing power in their prayers.”
As Michael copes with the sudden loss of the muscle function of his lower extremities, he is being cared for at the Shepherd Center, a private rehabilitation hospital in Atlanta, Georgia, that’s known to be a top facility for spinal cord injuries.
At the end of last month, Whitney confirmed Michael’s stroke to The Daily Dish, revealing that the butler had suffered an acute spinal cord infarction, which is often referred to as a spinal cord stroke.
“Although this tragedy has caused significant nerve damage and impairment, with the help of the outstanding physicians at the Shepherd Center in Atlanta, we are hopeful Michael will soon recover. Thank you for respecting Michael’s privacy during this challenging time,” he shared.
Around the same time, Cameran said that before Michael was transferred to the Shepherd Center from a hospital in Charleston, she was able to pay him a visit.
“He’s in good spirits,” Cameran said on the Everything Iconic podcast. “He’s one of the kindest, sweetest people I’ve ever met, and so my prayers are with him, and for a full recovery. I hated to see that that happened to him.”
Michael’s CaringBridge page has already been visited by more than 70k people.
