If you’ve ever had the uniquely specific desire to play an instrument remotely from thousands of miles away, there’s a new Kickstarter campaign worth a look.

First unearthed by our friends at MusicTech, the project, titled “Blue Marble: Put a Music Synthesizer in Space!” is aiming to launch a synthesizer into orbit—one that only works in zero gravity, at that. Its organizers are working to raise $50,000 to make the mission a reality.

The Blue Marble Synthesizer is housed in a proprietary capsule resembling a miniature spaceship, where it interacts with a floating marble and a range of sensors to generate audio and visual data. This data can then be accessed and manipulated by users from home on Earth through an interactive, web-based interface or VST plugin.

Additionally, a select subset of the campaign’s supporters will even gain access to a live mode feature, allowing them to interact with the system in real-time, albeit one user at a time.

Followers of the campaign will also have new music to discover as Andrew Huang, Benn Jordan, Trovarsi and Maysun are all joining the synthesizer’s orbital mission and will produce music for a special post-mission album release. The timeline to launch the Blue Marble Synthesizer is November 1st, 2023 aboard the Space X Falcon 9 Rocket.
